Get an introduction to zero carbon buildings in Canada, then dive into lessons learned from the team behind okimaw peyesew kamik (King Thunderbird Centre) along its journey to CAGBC Zero Carbon Building Design certification. Chandos Construction and Stok will break down how collaborative delivery supported cost certainty, nimble decision-making, and ambitious performance goals. Attendees will learn best practices for delivering zero carbon in Alberta’s challenging climate.

Audrina is an Australian and Canadian architect with over 20 years of professional experience. Audrina’s role as the Director of Sustainable Construction enables her to support Chandos to deliver lower carbon buildings, attain energy targets on buildings, research and develop climate resiliency strategies and reduce our GHG emissions in operations. Through her experience as an architect and management professional, Audrina brings a multidisciplinary aspect into her role and is excited to be collaborating with industry partners to build a resilient, low-carbon construction sector. Audrina also volunteers with the Smart Sustainable Resilient Infrastructure Association on the Board of Directors (SSRIA).

How can non-profit and long-term care facilities achieve deep decarbonization through collaborative delivery? mcCallumSather shares insights from across its project portfolio, including an existing building zero carbon certification pursuit, a design-build-enabled all-electric and passive house community facility, and effective funding approaches for long-term care retrofit projects. Pulling from an array of new builds and deep retrofits, this session will show how design-build delivery methods enabled expedited decision-making, improved cost certainty, and greater building performance.

This session explores the net zero carbon ready Vernon Active Living Centre in Vernon, British Columbia, where the team used Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to clarify owner priorities, get early team-wide buy-in on costs, and navigate the complex grant landscape. Group2, AME Group, and Stok will provide a brief overview of IPD and share how the team applied Target Value Delivery Continuous Estimating, parametric analysis, and real-time trade partner input to balance capital and operating costs for the owner, demonstrating how collaborative delivery strengthens financial outcomes while delivering meaningful carbon reductions for public-sector projects.
Troy Smith, Principal, Group2
Group2 Principal Architect, Troy Smith is a design and project delivery leader based in Group2’s Saskatoon Studio, and brings expertise in designing and constructing community buildings, including multiple recreation and aquatic facility projects in BC, AB, and SK, such as the Vernon Active Living Centre, Fort Saskatchewan Aquatic Centre, Meadows Community Recreation Centre in Edmonton, and Lakeland County Co-Op Leisure Centre in Prince Albert. Troy contributes extensively to collaborative delivery projects across Western Canada. With experience spanning facility planning and interdisciplinary coordination, Troy brings a practical and people centered approach to Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). Troy’s background positions him well to speak on the Vernon ALC project’s sustainability goals and how decarbonization strategies can be advanced through IPD frameworks.
Stephen Faust, Associate, Group2
Stephen Faust an Associate and Architect based in Group2’s Edmonton Studio and is a key contributor to on multiple IPD projects in the recreation, municipal and K-12 sectors, with a strong focus on operational efficiency, long term value, and sustainable outcomes. He is currently working on the Vernon Active Living Centre and Fort Saskatchewan’s new Aquatic Centre. Stephen leads collaborative teams from initial vision to detailed documentation, bringing a systems thinking lens to decarbonization challenges. His experience supporting complex municipal projects makes him a valuable voice on collaborative delivery, emissions reduction, and an integrated sustainability approach.
Brett Banadyga, Principal, Energy + Sustainability, AME Group
Brett Banadyga is the Principal of the Energy + Sustainability team in AME Group’s Calgary office. Assisting projects in determining sustainability targets and the best value pathway to achieve them is Brett’s specialty. Brett has experience in effectively delivering building performance expertise on many aquatic and recreation, K-12 education, and post-secondary projects and he understands the largest impact drivers for energy and GHG emissions within these facility types. Brett’s expertise ranges from whole building energy modelling, incentive program application support, and thermal comfort analysis. His experience includes the Vernon Active Living Centre, Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre, and Fort Saskatchewan Aquatic Centre, each of which is being delivered through integrated project delivery.

Tyler Dixon, Partner, DIALOG
Tyler is a born-and-raised Albertan and passionate architect, focusing his career on addressing quality of life through evolving the discussion of urban infill, repositioning and renovations, housing, and our impact on the environment. As an architectural technologist and architect, Tyler works at all scales and within every aspect of the projects he is involved with. Tyler increased his international exposure by collaborating on a wide range of projects while working for firms in Turkey and Singapore. With strong roots in rural Alberta, Tyler appreciates the opportunity to bring this diversity of experience back to a local context, constantly exploring the historic and future identities of uniquely Albertan architecture. As a Partner in DIALOG’s Edmonton studio, he has the opportunity to realize the outcomes of design decisions alongside a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving community well-being and the environment we all share. Tyler believes that community wellbeing starts with a healthy home and has focused his career on exploring housing types ranging from single family dwellings, seniors housing, townhouse developments, mid-rise, and high-rise. He has worked with co-housing groups and cooperatives, private developers, publicly funded groups and institutions, and the general public in various formats to understand the impact of housing on mature neighbourhoods, urban sprawl, social isolation, and true mixed-use. He has led the design of numerous projects in Edmonton and throughout Alberta, including Station Lands, The Citizen on Jasper, and Glenora Park.
Andrea Linsky, Director, Emissions-Neutral Buildings, Alberta Ecotrust Foundation
As Director, Emissions-Neutral Buildings at Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, Andrea Linsky launched Alberta's first Emissions-Neutral Building Information Exchange (ENBIX). This platform helps to accelerate a net-zero built environment by breaking down barriers and sharing best practices. She also leads the Alberta Ecotrust Retrofit Accelerator, a federally funded program to support building owners and industry through deep energy retrofits in Alberta. Previously at the City of Edmonton, Andrea mapped a pathway to carbon-neutral operations by 2040 and developed policies requiring all new City buildings to be emissions-neutral. Andrea also led the development of one of North America’s first Municipal Carbon Budgets. A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University and a Master's of Leadership from Simon Fraser, Andrea brings over 15 years of experience with energy and emissions reduction in buildings to her work.
Adam Larson, Owner, Zu House
Adam co-owns and operates Zu House and is a leader in high-performance construction in Edmonton, Alberta, with over 30 years of experience building custom infill homes. He specializes in energy-efficient design and construction, focusing on Net Zero and advanced building envelope systems that deliver exceptional performance, durability, and comfort. Respected throughout the industry for his expertise in architectural components and construction detailing, Adam combines building science with refined craftsmanship to create homes distinguished by precision, structural integrity, and architectural calibre. He is a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter and a graduate of the Inside Passage School of Woodworking.
Shafraaz Kaba, Senior Project Manager, Stok

With more than two decades in sustainable design, he is a leader in integrated design for numerous high-performance buildings, including deep energy retrofits. Shafraaz’s experience as a registered architect provides intimate knowledge of the design and construction process and brings value to the role of an integrator of sustainable design, climate, and resilience measures. Shafraaz is also Chair of ENBIX, the Emissions Neutral Building Information Exchange.
